Tony knows that it was a mistake based on appearance, that the logic of what happened wasn't cruel.

Toni can't help but feel like everything that was built up was ripped away in a second.

..just make it out of the room without crying, so you don't make her feel bad.

It took a while to figure out just who's heart is being broken. Actually, both of their hearts are being " broken " due to the circumstances. The picture in panel 2 would be Lexi's heart being broken because she has just mis-gendered Toni, and that after a very profound compliment. The picture in panel 2 would also be Toni's heart being broken because of the realization, although not true, that she potentially will always be perceived as a male, instead of her correct gender of an young adult female. The picture in panel 6 is well done, showing Toni sleeping, or more likely crying. The smallness of the viewpoint only drives home the tremendous angst of what just happened.

@CuteDress&TwinPonytails: Sorry for being unclear about whose heart was shattered. In this case, it was meant to be Toni. While Lexi is certainly feeling pretty bad about it, I don't think she really got how bad this entire thing was for Toni, or at least, doesn't experience it the same way.

For those playing at home - angst defined as "intense feeling of apprehension anxiety, or inner turmoil". In other Germanic languages, the word is regularly used to express fear.
So yes, the word is properly used by our good friend Ponytails here. And yes, it is a completely legit word that should be reclaimed from the internet! Viva la Emo!

Ouch... it was bound to happen eventually though. Its impossible for the brain-mouth filter to catch everything, especially when relaxed and with a close friend. If the friendship is true though, they'll pull through.
