I posted this on Facebook as well, but I need to put it here. This guy's view on depression summarizes so much of what I go through and live with every day. I always try my best to bring something happy, something to inspire, to make it so nobody else feels the hell I go trough. But sometimes, you need to hear the other side of it. This is worth listening to.

Notice the confusion that Bill is having in not understanding the difference between gender identity and sexual orientation. To Bill, they are almost one in the same, and can be used and thought of interchangeably. A lot of people are like that, and even though they have been educated on the fact that gender identity and sexual orientation are separate concepts, they still lump them together, and speak as if they are virtually the same. A lot of religious people are like that, too. They refuse to recognize the difference between the two, and say that what is the supposedly correct understanding is the supposition that there is only birth gender and homosexuality, nothing else !

BTW---I did copy and paste several times, and checked the web address to be sure it was correct, but each time a screen comes up on the Upworthy website that says " Not found, this page does not exist " .

@CuteDress&TwinPonytails: I'm not sure it's so much that Bill doesn't understand the difference between gender identity and sexual orientation, as he's likely never heard of gender identity in the first place (I don't remember it ever being mentioned in his presence, I could be wrong though). Until very recently, as we (trans* folk) have become much more visible in society at large, I'm quite certain most people who didn't actively deal with us had no idea what gender identity was at all. Hopefully one day the concept will be well known enough that this confusion stops happening for the most part (I'm sure there will always be holdouts in bigotry).

Let's see if the link works when I copy/paste it from the site.

Edit: Nope.

Edit 3: Also, I kinda wanna strangle Bill right now. >.>

@CuteDress&TwinPonytails: Fey fixed the link, if you didn't catch it.

@Fey Prevesk:
I'm not so sure that Bill doesn't understand either. If I'm modelling him somewhat after my own brother, I would say he is pretty dang smart. Which was actually established somewhere near the beginning. So I think he probably gets it, but either way, he doesn't like it.

Though, given that I am somewhat modelling it over my experiences, I would say most of the knowledge he has probably came from trash TV.

You might want to strangle him, but, what about his side? He saw his brother beaten to near death. He keeps coming home bruised and broken. Maybe he isn't being all that harsh after all, he just wants a 'normal' brother. Or, alternately, maybe he just really doesn't know how to handle something like this. If you never had to deal with it, and suddenly, hey, my bro is a tranny, thats sort of a big thing to deal with. The entire dynamic of who your sibling is has just radically changed. And people fear change.

Anyways, enough ranting, I'm going back to bed. Was up till 6 posting the next batch!
