Bad news compounds bad news. First Bill is a tool, and then dad has to go out of province? Toni has another home, right?

Wow, I really phone home the art and colour on this one, didn't I? Well, they can't all be winners. At least none of the characters look like disproportional monsters. Small favours..

---

My dad sometimes says things like this. As if he didn't try absolutely every technique available to try to reach out to me as a kid. The man couldn't have worked harder on trying to be a good dad, and then he has the gall to say he wish he had done more? You ARE a good father, PERIOD.
I dunno about Tony's father, but mine really, really did everything he could. Thank you dad! Sorry to use your general image as Tony's dad and poorly draw you most of the time!

I discovered Wildflowers last night and read the whole thing first to latest.

I made the same change Toni (1985-87) is going through. Reading about Toni's being bashed, her struggle to figure out just what she was and the rejection by her family brought tears to my eyes. That stuff is behind me but its impossible to completely forget.

Good work and keep it up.

May I ask you one thing? When you have a dark panel please use a larger and contrasting colors. At age 67 its really hard to see almost black lettering on a blacker background.

Good luck with your own transition. Wildflowers has to be an autobiographical comic, doesn't it?

@PattyM: I'm very happy that you enjoyed it enough to get past the brutal art at the beginning. I assure you, it gets better from here!

For the colouring, I do apologize for the lousy contrast. Unfortunately I am largely colourblind so much of the time it will look really bad, and I can see greyscale REALLY well, so I can see contrast better than others. I started to add outlines on black on grey to make it pop more. Let me know if there is a particular page you want me to fix and I will do my best to fix it.

I finished my transition back in 2004/5. Surgery with Dr Brassard and all that jazz.
Wildflowers, Tony/Toni/Annie's story, is more like an alternate timeline. I was filled with anger, self loathing, and shame during those years. I hated myself for what I thought I was. It wasn't until I read Venus Envy in my early 20's that I realized I was killing myself inside (in addition to outside, but that was covered in October). While I do borrow heavily from elements of my life, it is safe to say that her life is better than mine ever was. Really, all we share is similar names and that we are trans*.

Again, thank you for sharing her journey. I can guarantee at least 10 more months of comics at one per day, so I hope you stick around for them.
