January Marie Lapuz

Stabbed to death on Sept 29, 2012.

New Westminster, BC.
The most progressive city, in the most progressive province, in the most progressive country in the world for LGBT rights.
She didn't have to die.
Nobody should ever die for being the person they are inside.
Nobody.

I had the idea for the beads campaign for a while now. I know some people are starting to do it in the states, honouring those taken from us too soon with blue beads. Brilliant, shiny, pure. Like the people they honour.
If I should ever fall because of who I am, bring blue beads to my grave. And then, amidst the sorrow, I want you to dance. Because there is too much sadness in this world.

January Marie Lapuz, I've never met you, but your absence makes my heart ache.
Wherever you are now, I hope you feel sunlight on your skin, and love in your heart, and joy in everything that is you.

Many, I'm sure, including myself, will try and honour your request. . . . if I should live so long . . . .

So thats why you drew me wearing those bead bracelets. The first try at making one went well, I just need to find a better string before I make one using the good beads. And I think I'm going to have a lot of spare blue beads.
