So, why is her name Amanda? Because she is so freaking happy! Amanda is a happy name to me. Look at her! Nothing can get her down! Oh my god! She looks SO happy!
Also, who wears a watch any more? AMANDA DOES! And when people question her on it, she just smiles and laughs and is happy!

(If you feel like being depressed, fine, the other Amanda I know is the chick from the Saw movies. Now I'm thinking about being thrown in a pit of needles. Thanks. *shudder*)

Good introduction of a new character !

I like Amanda's attitude in panel 6, " What does it matter ? Does it really matter ? " If only more cis-people would have that beneficial attitude, instead of always wanting to guess or know your correct gender, then wanting to look between your legs so as to judge you by their dubious standards of morality.

BTW---Why is Annie in a sense " outing " herself by bringing up the subject of correct gender ? If Amanda did not seem concerned, why should it be an issue to discuss at all ? Maybe Annie still has a problem with self-confidence, even after all she has been through ?

Also---Don't most people wear a watch on their left hand ? But Amanda is wearing hers on her right hand. Is Amanda left-handed ?

CuteD - you're not Sinistrophobic are you?!;))

Maybe Amanda is like Mitch: one of those bubbly excited people? We need more people like them.

Also... another watch wearer here, though I take it off at weekends and hols. It does feel like a leash somehow

@CuteDress&TwinPonytails: People generally wear their watch on the arm that gets less use - it is hard to write when your watch prevents the wrist from bending easily.
Amanda doesn't know is she is left or right handed! She just wakes up, puts on whatever she wants and leaves!
Also, she is graduating and you will probably never see her again. Sorry. Some people come into your life, touch your heart, and that is what you need to carry forever.

As for it not mattering - it matters to gender binary trans people, doesn't it? If it didn't matter, wouldn't we just say, meh, I have what I have and I'm good with that?
It isn't a question of morality for people to want to know how to classify others. It is a basic human condition. It allows us to know what we are dealing with and make proper decisions. As much as we might not like being judged by what we have between our legs, when it comes to having sex with someone - it's kinda really important. Some guys, no matter how much they like you and are attracted to you, won't accept it if you have the "wrong" parts.
This isn't something we should judge others on any more than we should judge ourselves. People have preferences, things they want or don't want, things they need or can't have. It's the human condition.
Remember Stewart, from #386 - Open Doors (Chapter: wrong side of the bed)? He was a great guy, totally accepting of Annie after she was outed. But she wasn't "his type". Does anyone hate him for it? Should we? I don't think so. He just likes girls with vaginas.

Why is Annie outing herself? Because she wants to know if others perceive her as a girl. Especially when she isn't wearing anything on her chest (she is flat today). Perhaps others don't feel the need to be.. whats the term.. validated? Then again, others do. We want to know that we are seen as who we are, not who we aren't.

And yeah - Annie has confidence issues. Especially with all she has been through. With how others have treated her when she is noticed as different, she has a pretty high state of paranoia about it. If you recall, she was put on anti-anxiety medication in the hospital just so she could leave her room.

@stickygirl: Mitch isn't exactly a bubbly excited person (or at least, I didn't mean him to be). But he is a generally no-fucks-given type of guy. He picks up on what matters and says screw the rest.
Amanda, on the other hand, is just plain happy all the time. I'm sure stuff matters to her, but I doubt she has ever had a sad post on her Facebook. I dunno if Mitch even has Facebook.

Also, for you little monsters who wear watches: Look! A cell phone! :)
...I like Lady Gaga. So little monsters is an affectionate term.

Of course, we only think digital watches are a pretty neat idea because we're such amazingly primitive life forms...
