That is fear.

Unreasonable, irrational, terrifying, unreal. Everything she wants, and she can't do it, because fear.

Sorry, did you expect it to just go smoothly? Let me ask you, if you were given this opportunity early in transition, or for non-trans people, early in any major job opportunity to do something DRASTIC, would you take it?

I'm going to listen to "Eminem - Lose Yourself" now.

'Look, if you had one shot, one opportunity, to seize everything you wanted, one moment, would you capture it or just let it slip?'

Nooooooooooo :(

Fear and panic? I'll probably feel the same if I ever get to the point where I think I could pass in public as a girl.

I remember my first day at work after my transition was announced I was so unsure of what I wore that day. I did feel that fear Annie felt and this episode captures that feeling perfectly.

At my workplace back in 2010, we didn't have a policy in place for coming out as trans in the workplace, so I worked with my boss and we came up with a statement to announce to over 550 employees whom I work with. It had to be HR approved. Once it got approved, my boss made the announcement and said that if there were any questions or objections, he would deal with them. To my surprise and relief, nobody had any problems with it.

@claredin: That's actually pretty good of them! I came out in.. 2005 or something? Big telecom in Canada, where, you know, we've had gay marriage since forever. So they didn't announce anything, they just said 'yup, yer a girl now, if someone complains I will deal with it'.

That's awesome! :) I work at a university. It took 1-5 years for the conservative types to finally use the right pronouns without slipping up. The funny thing is whom I thought would be my biggest problems with my transition ended up being my biggest supporters. It's funny how that is.
