Ready for some totally unrequested geography lessons?
The distance from my place in Rundle in Calgary (right near the train station) to the bike trail, and then the bike trail near the Bow River all the way to the bridge near COP (Canada Olympic Park), and then back, is 24 miles. I used to ride it every day before (and often after) work. It was the only way I could get to sleep, I would have to exhaust myself. This was a time before antidepressants for me. It was a system that worked! Except biking that far that late at night is frickin dangerous. Don't do it. Snarf.

Figured out who dropped the note yet? It will all be revealed soon enough. I think I need to start a new chapter, actually, since this is like SUPER IMPORTANT and stuff.

Yes, crossing your fingers when you promise negates the promise. It is also a really uncool thing to do. Then again, Lexi won't tell Annie who it is, so it is pretty frickin unfair. But who could it be that Lexi is suddenly so protective?

I've finished reading up until this point now and I very much appreciate your work on this comic. Thanks for taking your time to draw it.

(I have a real itch to draw Annie, hehe, for days now!)

@Pathkiller: Thank you so much for joining us on Annie's journey! And a special thanks for getting through the first 175 pages of eye-gouging terribadness.

I think we would all love to see you draw Annie! It would be hard to make her look worse than the original and all.

I've drawn her a lot, at many stages of her transition. I think I captured the almost-passing-but-not-perfect in the drawings when I first started reading.

On another note, I'm pretty sure I've known since the first letter.

In an ideal world, Annie would either (a) not go or (b) take a chaperone or two (possibly even not going directly to the bridge but setting out early to any reasonably concealed location within sight of it so Mystery Man could be observed arriving). A mobile phone and personal alarm would also be useful accessories.

However, as with many in real life, Annie is probably not genre savvy and thinks the notes are perfectly innocent. Lexi will probably also believe her false promise and not think of either telling her parents or setting out for the bike bridge herself (just in case).

As for the identity of the mystery man, if it's someone we've already met there aren't that many suspects as it has to be someone at school. Can anyone remember offhand which episodes the previous notes were issued in, so I can roam around and see if I can notice any clues either from the note or the events immediately surrounding the discovery?

@Dew: ...can I see? I really want to see them. Like, a lot. Like a ridiculous amount of want.
Also, yeah, I am pretty heavy handed with exposition, the person who is leaving the notes is relatively obvious in retrospect. On the other hand, maybe you are very wrong - message me your guess, I'd love to know when you figured it out!

---

@mittfh: Well, good news - in the coming days she actually does cover the bases of getting into the situation somewhat safely. She is a learning robot. The longer you fight her, the more deadly she becomes.
Not that her life has been a great indication of how well things can go, but, who is to say that it isn't somewhat nice leaving her notes? Even if they do know about her history, for all we know it could be Stewart (the guy from the party where Vixen Annie first showed up). Not everyone sucks!

The first note shows up in "Door Note" in chapter "Finals". It is on a Sunday, before the week of the swim finals. She went out to get a slurpee with Mitch.
Second note shows up in "Second Note". It is on a Monday, in her private locker room, after the swim finals are over and she is cleaning out her stuff.
So whoever it is knows where she lives (that's creepy) and knows where she changes (that is SUPER creepy). But as I stated above, when you find out who it is, the obviousness is obvious when it becomes obvious.

@GreenKrog: Looking at those strips, plus surrounding ones, plus part of the latest signing-off acronym (which has expanded CS --> ECS --> ECVS), brings a particular suspect to mind.

If I'm right, then it's unlikely he'd do anything harmful to her, but possibly has chosen an out-of-the-way place to minimise the chances of peers finding out about the meeting and possibly the the possibility of him getting flak over it from them (thus possibly causing him to bottle out of the invite).

(Argh, I think I possibly may have possibly over-used the word 'possibly' in the above...)

With all the abuse Anne has been through you'd think that she would be less naive. She is brilliant but in this case she is being very stupid.

Heck, ANY girl would take friends with her to the bridge. Going anywhere potentially dangerous alone is a really stupid thing to do.

@PattyM: Annie *really* doesn't understand how other people function yet. She walks around late at night without someone with her (remember when Dan was worried about her being self destructive?). She never tells her brother where she is staying the night, even after he took a knife for her.

I worry that she IS still self destructive. It is a difficult line to walk between actually caring to defend yourself (self worth issues) and the feeling of "I'm fine, nobody thinks I'm anything but perfect, therefore I'm invincible".

My writer's taint is showing through, what with my two functions being those two functions. Sorry!

I personally have no idea who ECVS is. Brain fuzzy from antidepressants and whatnot.
