So.. words.. about this. *sigh*.

Yes, Malcom (Mal/Mel) did try to kill himself. In this case, (at least partially like me), through cutting himself. He is NOT telling Annie that she should walk in and be like 'Imma kill myself!'. He is saying that if you stand your ground, and do not give nay mixed signals, eventually they will have no ammo to use against you.

And yes, Mal still sees Mel in the mirror. We don't know how far along he is, or if he still has to go to school as Mel. I don't really know his story. Why does he still have long hair, especially when he sees it flowing in the mirror?

When I heard people saying how brave is someone for transitioning, I think what are you talking about, transition its not courage, its a need (for some)

But I think it is brave to stand for yourself when you are transitioning and saying: this is me and this is what and who me is gonna be, you cant change that because I am me.

Not all men have short hair! I happen to think that the combo of long hair and a big bushy beard is very sexy.

It's also possible that Mel is a non-binary man, but has to push the "hardcore male" image as part of resisting the conversion therapist's abuse.

Those are the first two thoughts that occur to me...

@Anna: In to lumbersexuals, are you? :) Funny, my ex from like, 8 years ago, he had a big bushy beard and hair longer than mine. We were sitting in a restaurant and our waiter came up behind him, saw the long hair, and asked 'what can I get you ladies?'. My ex turned around, giant beard - oh the hilarity!

Mel = a girl (who doesn't exist). Mal = a dude. Way to fail the TG name test ;)
I don't know much about Mal. I figured he is probably binary, but the more transmen I meet IRL, the fewer binary ones seem to exist. Nobody will tell me his story even though I keep asking my friends to make one up for him. Bah!

@GreenKrog:

Well, the name confusion is kind of understandable (not an excuse, though). They sound so much alike, and Mel sounds more like a dude's name, and I've known a few women who's nicknames were Mal. A double case of androgynous names.

@Grenartia: I know! That's why I said it tongue in cheek. I'm sort of a baddie sometimes with trans people I just meet, as much as I hate myself for it. Especially those who have yet to begin transition or are not really presenting yet. It's totally understandable - we are humans, we see what we see, and as much as it sucks, that is how we are programmed.

Doesn't make it excusable. Just reasonable. Which is why I put his full name, Malcom, to make it more clear - it can be easy to confuse Mal and Mel, harder to confuse Malcom and Mel. (Dunno what 'her' original name was, nobody will tell me. And I don't really want to know).

Oops, I guess I missed the tongue in cheek bit. My bad.

But yeah. You ever work as a carpenter or something? Because you hit the nail on the head.

@Elessir: It has EVERYTHING to do with this comic. You decided to come out to your family despite knowing what could happen. Not only that, you did it because you want to be an example to those who might live in fear.
Don't underestimate how big of a thing it is, or what impact it will have on people.

@GreenKrog: I meant with the specific events of this page, but you're right. Part of it was the reveal to the parents.
