Ever walk in on a conversation like that?
I came out after I was a grown adult (physically), so when my brother defended me like this, it was for other reasons. If you ever hear an argument like this, and know that someone is truly caring that much about you? It's..
I can never thank you enough RBill. We had our problems, but I knew I could count on you. Of our entire family, I worried least about you rejecting me.
I think we all were waiting for that ounce of warmth. Things seem a bit brighter.
My sister loves me. She is my only sister; I am her only sister. We have a brother biologically, but he was put up for adoption before I was born (and I am the older sister).
Because of autism, I was never the physical protector of my little sister. That wasn't my strong suit - so I taught her to outthink everything and everybody. She /still/ does so, and I'm proud of her for it.
I am also proud of you for writing Tony as you do, as opposed to before he accepted that he has a sister. And how staunch an ally he is. This is based on your real-life brother? Then please hug him for me. I wish all siblings could be so loyal. Even if it's always learned behaviour. :)
