It wasn't really a set in stone thing in my school, but there was definitely some cliques going on.

For a hated person, (the school feared me), I managed to fit into most of them. The drama geeks liked how quick witted I was, the nerds respected my alternate way of thinking, the normals liked how I was relatively badass, the jocks liked that I would teach them stuff. It's weird, everyone feared me for being an overweight skinhead, and yet I think I knew more secrets than anyone else in the school by being a nice person.

Anyways! My point is - some high schools, the clique nature really does exist. Some, less so. I choose to base everything I know off of Mean Girls instead of my own reality!

HighSchool was...weird; not at all the the movies made me expect...

We had the cliques. but those mostly existed in the lunch room.
After a very, very bad froshing incident in my hometown the summer before I went to highschool (New year of student specific bullying) It seemed like my year of classmates decided that outright bullying was a no-go and it was enforced by the 'cool kids' (most of the fights during the school year were transfers that didn't seem to get the concept).
Heck; one time a kid decided to target me, he was very, very quickly reminded that the lunch he was eating every day was made by me. (He ate at the cafeteria each day; a place I was doing a more hands on course of home ec. Most of the food was made by me (extra credits ftw!))

Though; it's already an odd school when the nerd clique randomly consisted of jocks, preps and the school leaders randomly joining us to play what ever games we had bought that day.

To bad the teachers sucked :P heh.

@Drunkenmists: In our school, grade 10 and 11 were very cliquish except for the floaters (like myself and the RMitch). Then in grade 12 it was like someone flipped a switched. Nobody gave any fucks at all about cliques, all the illusions and pretense about how we isolated and promoted ourselves dropped away. Everyone just totally got along. It was surreal to go from insular groups to just one big 'whatever, wanna hang'?

I guess my high school had cliques, since I would mostly hang out with choir and band students (even though I wasn't in band), although I had a little group of friends that I always had lunch with, and half of them weren't in any artsy stuff.
