Technically, she is right. Erica never actually blackmailed Annie. Implied it, sure. Technically, all Erica has ever done is ask questions. In a really, really terrible way. Just.. perspective.

Also, WOW does Cindi have some power hips on her! Was it because I don't know how to draw the female form? MAYBE!

Lastly, the pool? Probably not to scale. That is one tiny pool. Not that either of the schools mentioned actually have pools at all, just.. yeah. Storyline.

Cindi's hips look like swimmers legs. Big wonderful powerful legs. I've always had a thing for swimmers...

Erica just seems like a super blunt person to me. Which, while certainly abrasive at times, is something I can kind of understand. She seems like someone who keeps their emotions to themselves, and when you add in ignorance of trans issues, you get someone that seems more than a little creepy.

@Erin: To me, she seems like someone who has a personality disorder of some sort. Maybe a form of autism. She simply doesn't know how to express her own emotions, or how to tell what someone else is feeling. She's curious, and doesn't realize how much she's creeping Annie out unless expressly told.

What I'm wondering is what she means when she says "I fixed it." From my experience, simply talking with a bully, especially one in a position of authority, has never changed anything. Did Erica really fix it? Does she have some crazy amount of influence somehow?

@Anon: I don't think that is necessarily fair to say the teacher is a bully. She has never outright threatened Annie, just made her uncomfortable. When Annie said no, she accepted it, though grudgingly. She is a jerk, sure, but so is Erica. It comes down to how we talk to those we don't know how to talk to. Which is somewhat of the point of both Erica and the English teacher.

@GreenKrog: I find Erica kind of endearing. It seems like she's just trying to understand Annie and be friendly with her, but has no idea how to proceed without coming across as a total creep. That's something I can easily relate to. I rarely approach people because I have no idea how to talk to them.

@Anon: I also find Erica endearing. I could definitely see her being somewhere on the autism spectrum, but I think it's probably too early to tell on that front. She certainly has some understanding of what makes people upset, because she realizes that Annie is upset, and she wants to make her feel better.

And in response to what the character represents, I think it's actually pretty positive. To me, it says that someone can be ignorant, can hurt someone, and can be abrasive, but all of those things don't make them a bad person as long as thy continue to push past their own shame and embarrassment at messing up so much to do the right thing. Not because they are perfect, or have a perfect knowledge of every issue in the world, but because they want to do the right thing regardless of anything else.

I don't really see Erica or Annie being jerks here, just two people trying to work past their traumas and faults.

That said, the english teacher is, in fact, threatening Annie. She heavily implies that she will punish Annie if she doesn't do what she wants by telling the principle. I really can't see that being construed as anything other than a threat. Obviously, she doesn't realize how serious this threat is, but it is still a threat.

@Erin: Oh right. The principal thing. The entire reason this page is labelled blackmail. Seems like one of those things I should remember as the writer, huh?

A large part of the character of Erica is because I am sort of like that. I am blunt as hell and I often don't know when I am saying really dumb things. Makes me thoroughly unlikable unless I am *really* focusing on that whole 'be nice' thing. Makes me a good manager, at least.

Speaking of totally blunt, I have to ask - you aren't Erin L, are you?
