How terrible is it that parents can so willingly hurt their children like that? That they can spread that taint of pain to their kids that is poisons their hearts and brings their blood to spill? Why, because some person put words on a page? Because they so strongly believe that their all-loving God would inflict being gay on their child as a test?
There is an old robot saying, "Does not compute".

Sometimes Julie can help those kids. Sometimes, like Tony, she can't. And they die.

I'm honestly starting to wonder if Dr. Bernt is the right therapist for Annie. I don't doubt that she's good at her job, but she may no longer be able to remain professional where Annie is concerned. Many therapists decide to stop seeing a patient and refer them to a colleague if they feel they are becoming too close, but Julie has instead embraced the surrogate mother/daughter bond she's developed with Annie while still acting as her therapist. At this point, Annie may need someone who can be unbiased and pragmatic at all times.
