Yeah yeah, language warning. I avoid using swears in the comic, not to keep it PG or anything, but because swears are generally a sign of lazy writing. You can use swears for some many things that they begin to lose meaning. They are no longer holding any shock. So for WF, having Flint use swears means that this is a very serious situation. He isn't being polite, he isn't being clever, he has stopped all pretense. I hope that carries.

Which brings us to the discomfort I had drawing this page. And I did. That was a few weeks ago though, and I have now had time to distance myself from it. I had a problem because it was a man hitting a woman. Doesn't that feed into the bubble of mysogyny? Well, kinda. Except that would also imply that Flint doesn't have full rights to use force to prevent greater injury (knife is a deadly weapon, fists usually aren't). So why are we making Zora be a girl instead of a human, and why make Flint a man instead of a human being? We spend all this time talking about how your genitals don't define who you are, but then feminism comes along and makes everything about that sort of thing. So to me, frame 3 was a problem because it was a man hitting a woman. Until I realizes that it isn't. It is a human hitting a human.

Feel free to discuss this. Be polite.

I never understood the whole "guys can't hit girls" thing. I have a really simple rule when it comes to violence: it can only be used as a response to someone else's violent behavior. So sure, it's not okay for a guy to hit a girl, but it's not okay for a guy to hit a guy either. Or for a girl to hit a guy. Or a girl to hit a girl.

But when someone acts violently and poses a danger to you or other people, you have a right to use whatever force is necessary to stop them. I really don't see at what point gender factors into the equation.

I have no problem with Flint hitting Zora. Bitch deserved it, and he was doing so in defense of his friend. As GreenKrog said, a human hitting a human.

As for "the whole 'guys can't hit girls' thing", generally it is because most girls do not have the strength, hitting power, ability to hit as men do. But I was brought up that if a girl was to hit me (when my mom, and I at the time, both believed I was a boy), then it was permissible for me to retaliate with like.

This is limited though. So if a girl slaps you, you shouldn't hit her with a closed fist and bloody her face. This also applies if she closed fist hits you as hard as she can, and it feels like nothing.

Now, if she is Ronda Rousey, then you better hit her as hard as you can if she starts throwing fists at you. And the reverse would be the same if she was dating a man who isn't a fighter. She needs to pull her punches to defend herself.

@Lex-Kat: Fun fact. Ronda Rousey was in a relationship with a man who was not a fighter. She got angry at him for alleged naked pictures on his phone (of her). She waited at home until he got home (note: this means it was not an act of passion, it was premeditated fighting). Once he got home, she hit him and wanted to leave. He wanted to discuss it, so he grabbed her arm. She then beat the fuck out of him. She went to her car, and he got back up and tried one more to stop her. So she hit him again.

She was never charged and nobody believes his story and this is held up as an important step in feminism.

Fist v Knife beats Man v Woman any day, any time. It didn't even OCCUR to me to worry about the gender thing until Zora said it, and when she did it sounded simply...petty. She was attacking someone with a switchblade and Flint was disarming her with whatever means were needed. Bottom line.
