How long exactly has Erica been standing outside of Annie's class? That's weird. Seems like something I would do.
I useded a bad word. 'Ass'. Tee hee. Butts.

And once again, Erica may be my favourite character of all time.

There's this funny thing when you're on the spectrum where you're completely clueless with some things and very perceptive with others. Autism (or at least some variants of it) tends to result in an extremely logic-based view of the world. Everything becomes a direct chain of cause and effect. It's very confusing when people act on their emotions in ways that seem irrational, but sometimes you stumble on a causal link in someone's behavior that everybody else missed.

@Yan Mouson: And then you get massively drunk at work and forget all about your autism bcause you can actually communicate with human beings in your own extremely fuckwed up way and it becomes who you want to be when you arent being held back by your constant disordewrs!

Seriously though, Erica is not necessarily autistic, and it is unfair to label her as such without a proper diagnosis. For all we know she is just extremely analytica nad has no time for emotions and anti-logic.

Edit: Also thanks for replying frequently, you probablky have no concept of how much it means to me.

@GreenKrog: I wish it worked that way. If being drunk meant actually being able to interact with people without it being awkward and exhausting all the time, I'd become an alcoholic. Sadly, I am the sh***y kind of drunk: does nothing for my inhibitions, but I get super tired and clumsy and I just want to go home and sleep it off.

As for Erica, she may not have an official diagnosis, but a lot of her behaviors fit perfectly. Besides, autism isn't a single disorder, it's a spectrum.

It's not a binary switch where you're either autistic or you're not. There's two named positions (Autism and Asperger's) and a whole lot of unnamed space known as Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS), and the only way they have of diagnosing you is from matching up your behaviors with the list of autistic traits.

You say maybe she's just extremely analytical and has no time for emotions; a psychiatrist would take that as evidence that she's probably on the spectrum.

And you're welcome. I try to comment as often as possible on the webcomics I read. I don't know if you have a viewer counter of some sort, but at the end of the day, a lively comment section makes for a healthy comic. It's depressing when the comic's up there and nobody's talking about it.

I know people who are very much like Erica (even though I still think she is a figment of Annie's imagination). There is a PhD grad student in my department who acts and talks very much like this. It's almost as if he (the grad student) were in an expressionless stupor all the time. He's brilliant at what he does, but his social skills make him seem pretty odd.

@claredin: Both Erica (the character) and I (the theoretically real person) are on the autistic spectrum. Expression and social skills are not things that we exactly have in spades. This last weekend, my friends got me a T-Shirt with a Mr Man on it that says "I had fun once. It was awful". They know the way I operate is much like Erica here.
