Panels 2 & 3---
Deb Andrews' offhand comment right out in public is going to cause Annie a bit of trouble. One would be surprised how many cis-people who know of or are related to a trans*person do that sort of thing, many times without malicious intent, that is, repeatedly misname and/or misgender the already transitioning or finished transition person. Why do cis-people, who are loved ones or friends, have to do this to the trans*person so many times over ? Are cis-people really that dumb or uncaring ?

@CuteDress&TwinPonytails: It isnt that they are dumb or uncaring, it is that they have been trained for years on how to refer to someone. Changing that is a hard habit to break. I've been me for around 12 years or so, and my parents still misgendered me by accident once or twice on vacation while around other family. Then again, they also called me the wrong name and gender for 23 years before that, so I am not about to get angry at them for it. Maybe when Im 23 years old, then I would say it is enough time.

Um...

I really HATE to do this...but...in my experience, hairdressers are among the most accepting people in the universe. Especially funky-haired hairdressers. And Annie is CLEARLY a girl. And that statement by her mother may have outed her, but it still made it clear that she is transgender and therefore female.

Now if this were some redneck asshat, OK. But it's a smiling, blue-haired hairdresser. She is not only likely to be a very accepting soul, but she depends on TIPS from her customers. So why would she even *think* of saying "sir"?

@sunspark: She didn't present it as an attack or deliberate misgendering, she presented it as a 'I am not sure which I am supposed to call you as per the conversation that I just overheard, so I am presenting both options'. She is very accepting, which is why she gave room for both options.

I get that. But, given how Annie looks and how she is dressed, etc., why is "Sir" even an option here?

@sunspark: I don't know, why don't you ask that bitch at the emotional disregulation group that I went to, after passing for years, why the fuck she would ask my gender pronouns when I am clearly a fucking girl.

I'm not bitter.

Sorry that happened to you. :-(

(Desperate attempt to save the day): Maybe she was concerned that you might be a pre-HRT FTM?
